Changing E-Mail Software

We have changed our email list software in order to give our friends a bit of control over the mail they receive from us. Originally we simply kept a big old list of emails/names of everybody we knew who had expressed interest in attending a house concert.

This week we are setting up a professional email list service to help us handle the success of the Auburn House Concerts. The new software uses a confirmed opt-in policy to ensure, by email, that subscribers intended to join your mailing list. When subscribers join the mailing list through the subscription link on our Web site, we send them an email message that contains a confirmation link. Subscribers must click the link to confirm they want to be added to your mailing list.

This new policy guards against the possibility that a third-party added the subscriber without their knowledge or permission.

Once on the Auburn House Concerts list you will be able to indicate your interest is any of the following areas:

Auburn Journal Article

The Auburn Journal featured an article about our concerts today. House concerts offer intimate show setting, by Loryll Nicolaisen a Journal staff writer.

I like the photo she choose (Melanie O'Reilly's 2007 performance), it really captures the intimacy of our concerts.

A Train Set

This was recorded at the Stevie Coyle concert on January 17, 2009.

The Last Steam Engine Train is a finger-style guitar standard written by John Fahey. Train On The Brain is an original song that Stevie Coyle wrote for his 2009 solo CD Ten-In-One.

Winter Sun

Gerry O'Beirne plays his tune Winter Sun at the Auburn House Concert, November 20, 2008.

Gerry recorded this beautiful instrumental on his 2008 CD The Bog Bodies And Other Stories: Music For Guitar.

Listen through to the end because the last minute is extraordinarily beautiful. The room was full of overtones and celestial bells that record/playback just can not capture. If you love to "listen" to music, do yourself a favor and plan to spend this Halloween at Gerry's next Auburn House Concert.

The Bristlecone Pine

This was recorded at the Bryan Bowers concert on May 22, 2009. The song was written by Hugh Prestwood.

More information on the Auburn House Concerts web page for this video.

The Holy Ground

Gerry O'Beirne sings his song The Holy Ground at the Auburn House Concert, November 20, 2008. Seated stage right is Pete Grant on dobro.

You may remember this from Mary Black's 1993 album of the same name.

We are working with Gerry to schedule his second Auburn House Concert later this year.

New Stevie Coyle CD Released

At his second Auburn House Concert back in January Stevie announced that his first solo CD named 622 will be available in a couple of months. We'll its out with a different title, Ten In One. The marketing blurb follows. Naturally the CD is available at StevieCoyle.com and other find book stores.

Stevie Coyle was a co-founder of the Waybacks, fronting them as a songwriter and vocalist, as well as rhythm and fingerstyle lead guitarist. He recently left the Waybacks and branched out as a solo singer-songwriter.

His debut CD, "Ten-in-One", is being released this month. This is a concept album, ostensibly about a trip to a sideshow and back. The cast includes Mike Marshall (David Grisman Darol Anger, Choro Famoso) on mandolin, Sam Bevan (Grisman, Joe Craven, Matt Flinner) on bass, Philip Aaberg (Windham Hill, Eugene Friesen) on accordion, Hank Roberts (Bill Frisell) on cello, Kit Walker (Kundalini Boombox, Airto Moreira) on keys, Kendrick Freeman (Allison Brown) on drums, Heidi Clare (AtAGallop, Reeltime Travelers) on fiddle, Dr. Robby Virus (Project Pimiento) on theremin, Marla Fibish (Three Mile Stone) on mandolin, Rich DePaolo (Ten Sleep) on electric guitar, mixing and mastering, Mike Phelan (Marley's Ghost), Corinne West, Teresa Tudury, Misty Browning and Rachel Tree on vocals. Walter Strauss produced and plays guitar and sings. I play guitar, lap steel and sing.

In this performance Stevie will be accompanied by Kit Walker on Keyboards, Kendrick Freeman on drums, and Sam Bevan on bass and harmony vocals. Since, in an earlier incarnation, Stevie was also a stand-up comedian (The Regan Brothers with Roy Zimmerman), expect also a lot of funny stuff!

Bryan Bowers

Master Autoharpist and Singer/Songwriter
Friday • May 22 • 7:30pm
info@AuburnHouseConcerts.org
Suggested Donation: $20

Bryan Bowers is a major artist on the traditional music circuit. A well-known singer/songwriter he has redefined the autoharp. Bryan has a dynamic outgoing personality and an uncanny ability to enchant a crowd. His towering six foot four inch from can be wild and zany on stage while playing a song like 'Dixie' and five minutes later he can have the same audience singing 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' in quiet reverence and delight.

For nearly four decades, Bryan Bowers has been to the autoharp what Earl Scruggs was to the 5-string banjo. He presents instrumental virtuosity combined with warm, eloquence, expression and professionalism.
"This man makes more music from an Autoharp than you can imagine from a 12-string guitar and a harpsichord combined. He has more stage presence and charisma than any stage performer in recent memory." --The Washington Times
Reservations recommended. Your $20 contribution goes to the artist. Email info@AuburnHouseConcerts.org or call 530/885-4292 for reservations and directions. Doors open at 7pm, music starts at 7:30pm.

Not your mama's folk music!

We finally have a date for the Euphonia concert, Friday September 12th.

Euphonia, a café-style acoustic combo, features accordion, mandolin, guitar, and voices, and its repertoire takes listeners on a journey from the sophisticated sidewalks of Paris across the adventurous high seas to the hay-strewn dance floors of rural America.

Holdstock & Macleod, July 24

Holdstock & Macleod will be performing at the Auburn House Concerts on Friday July 24th.

If you have thought about coming to the monthly sing, In Harmony's Way, but don't feel comfortable singing in front of people then this is the concert for you. Dick and Allen are founding members of the original In Harmony's Way down in the Bay Area. There will be ample opportunity to join in with the rest of the audience and sing along with the chorus. Great fun.

See the AHC website for more information.

Melanie O'Reilly Concert Report

Way cool.

Frank and Melanie made music that brought a tear to my eye it was so beautiful. They made music together as jazz is supposed to be: spontaneous, interactive and full of joy.

Our new Zoom H2 digital recorder provided a marked improvement in the sound recording. Look for a couple of videos from the concert on the AHC website in May.
